We Don’t Sell ‘Menstrual Sponges’, But You Might Like To Know…

TSS and Menstrual Sponges

As you may know, we proudly stock the Natural Intimacy brand, particularly their flagship product, IntimateCare sponges.

These sponges have proven highly successful as menstrual sponges. Simply “wet, twist, and insert,” and voila! You have a biodegradable, reusable alternative to bleached cotton tampons that lasts for six months.

However, they are not marketed as menstrual sponges because they have numerous other uses, especially in sensitive areas of the body where the softest, smoothest, and most sensitive sponges are essential.

Over time, our customers have come to refer to IntimateCare sponges as de facto menstrual sponges. This has created a peculiar situation because, while we haven’t been selling them as menstrual sponges, we should have provided some essential information to users.

As an ethical company, we wanted to guide our customers to an educational website about menstrual sponges. It’s called menstrual-sponges.com. It may not be the most exciting name, but it’s easy to remember.

Apart from some useful tips for sponge users, the website primarily focuses on Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS).

When menstruation occurs, blood is captured and held in the vagina, which is not a natural occurrence for the female body. The body is designed to expel the menses downward and out. Moreover, this creates a warm, moist environment that can harbor bacteria, leading to the potential for TSS.

While TSS is not a common occurrence, women should be aware of it, especially when inserting anything for an extended period, such as tampons, menstrual cups, contraceptive diaphragms, or cervical caps.

We felt responsible for disseminating the TSS message not only to our sponge users but also to the broader audience to enhance their education and awareness of this important topic.
