Ever wondered what happens to your electronic gadgets when they reach the end of their useful life?
In a blink of an eye, we’ve transitioned from tin cans and wooden boxes to plastics and electronic waste, posing a significant challenge for domestic refuse disposal. In terms of volume, we generate far more waste than our grandparents, and all of it needs to be disposed of. Not our grandparents, mind you!
Practically, disposal often involves passing the buck and moving the problem further down the line. The consumer places their waste in a council recycling bin, which then passes it on to a recycling company. But what happens next?
Incinerating plastics and electronic waste releases toxic smoke and gases, making it a non-starter. Similarly, non-decomposable waste ending up in a landfill site is far from ideal. Therefore, recycling emerges as the solution when items have reached the end of their useful life.
While researching responsible WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment) management, we stumbled upon an incredible eye-opening video from Eldan Recycling A/S. This video finally allowed us to witness how our old DVD players, laptops, and kitchen scales are recycled.
However, it did leave us pondering the question of what soundtrack would be most suitable for such a video. A tricky one indeed!
For the record, in the UK we are registered as a company which places WEEE onto the UK market and as such we are able to fulfil our obligations, forming part of the solution.
WEEE Producer Number: WEE/AU5950Y.
